We are excited to announce the 2025 Mid-Atlantic Geobiology Symposium! The symposium will be held on Friday, Feb. 28, 2025 at Johns Hopkins University. We welcome attendees from any career stage and invite submission for presentations (oral or poster) on geobiology-related topics including: paleobiology, geology, geomicrobiology, geochemistry, sedimentology, ecology, oceanography, climate science, planetary science and evolutionary biology.

The goal of the Mid-Atlantic Geobiology Symposium, initiated in 1990, is to support regional interactions and collaborations to expand understanding of geobiological processes across spatial and temporal scales and at a range of environmental conditions. This yearly event has been hosted by members of various institutions in the Mid-Atlantic (e.g., the University of Pennsylvania, Smithsonian Institution, University of Delaware, Rutgers University, John Hopkins University and the U.S. Geological Survey, among others) acting as rotating partners of the symposia. Ultimately, we hope to bring together researchers of various career stages at a range of institutions (e.g., PUI, State and Private R1 Universities, and federal research entities) in the region.

The symposium is free of charge thanks to the generous support of the Agouron Institute and the Johns Hopkins Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences. We are also offering travel grants (between $20-$200) to assist with travel costs. If multiple people are traveling from the same institution, we encourage you to travel together and submit a single travel grant request.

You can visit our website for information regarding the venue as well as links for registration, abstract submission, and requests for travel grants. Registration and abstract submissions for those wishing to present will close January 31, 2025. You may register to be a participant without presentation until February 21, 2025. Requests for travel grants are due January 31, 2025.

On our registration form, you will see an option to nominate an invited speaker. This year, we will have one invited speaker from the Mid-Atlantic Geobiology community and we would like your help selecting these speakers! You are welcome to self-nominate or to nominate a colleague. Please submit the registration form by January 31, 2025 for nominations to be considered.
