The Johns Hopkins University (JHU) School of Medicine invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty appointment in the Center for Functional Anatomy and Evolution (FAE) at the rank of Assistant Professor. Candidates should have an integrative, evolution-focused research program as well as experience in anatomical education. Research interests of the FAE faculty are diverse, addressing: vertebrate, mammal and primate evolution; craniodental and postcranial functional morphology; quantitative analysis of biological shape; animal models; biomechanics; ontogeny/embryology; tissue engineering; and evolutionary theory. Preference will be given to candidates whose research broadens the expertise of the Center and bridges to other academic units in the School of Medicine. Potential areas of interest include, but are not limited to, laboratory-based research on: evolution; genomics; mechanobiology; developmental biology; sensory systems; and/or biomedical questions. Postdoctoral research experience and a demonstrated ability to procure extramural funding is preferred.

FAE faculty are responsible for teaching dissection-based human anatomy to first-year medical students. They are also variably involved in graduate and undergraduate courses in anatomy and organismal biology. The Center administers a Ph.D. program in functional anatomy and evolution as well as a M.S. program in anatomy education. The successful candidate will contribute to ongoing program development and leverage JHU resources related to fostering a vibrant research environment as well as innovation in training and education.
